2020 October

The Orange County Trial Lawyer Association (OCTLA) is very excited to put on another spectacular golf tournament. The golf event is scheduled to take place on October 12th (Columbus Day) at the El Niguel Country Club in South Orange County. The course has worked with us closely to ensure that we are meeting all the necessary safety protocol and restrictions to address the coronavirus pandemic. We are looking forward to finally having an in-person event. The format of the program will not be our traditional shotgun approach, but will rather require tee times. Additionally, we will not be able to have our indoor dinner and traditional award ceremony and raffle format, but we will have a light outdoor happy hour with food as golfers exit the course. We have nearly sold out the tournament this year, so if you are interested in participating, please be sure to sign up as soon as you can at OCTLA.org. OCTLA is incredibly grateful for the continued support we receive from our affiliates and sponsors in making this event possible.

OCTLA is excited to present our “Top Gun” awards to the selected top attorneys for their achievements this past year. After consideration, OCTLA is honored to announce this year’s award winners:

Chris Purcell – Personal Injury

H. Gavin Long – Professional Negligence

William Paoli & Court Purdy – Government Entity Liability

Geoff Rill – Young Gun

Jennifer Johnson – Distinguished Achievement

OCTLA will have an awards presentation. As has become typical this year, adjustments have been made from our usual award event, which boasts around 500 attendees. The event this year will be a private in-person event for our award winners but will be broadcast virtually. This year’s event will be different, but a fun and cutting- edge way to join us in celebrating our award recipients. Please stay tuned for further details regarding our “Top Gun” awards presentation.

On October 8th we will be continuing our webinar-based MCLE events, with the program “Lien Resolution A to Z: A survey of lien resolution issues.” The program is approved for a one-hour MCLE credit, and will discuss timely issues pertaining to lien resolution and new developments of the niche area of law. If you are not able to attend the live webinar, we are now offering the ability to purchase our webinars On-Demand for viewing at your leisure through OCTLA.org.

Finally, let me take this opportunity to thank various contributors to our organization. Thank you to ChartSquad, our Premier Affiliate Partner, and to all of our contributors and sponsors for allowing us to enjoy the remaining events for the year. Thank you in particular to the Top Gun Awards Selection Committee, Top Gun Event Committee, and Golf Tournament Committee for working incredibly hard to make the necessary adjustments to move these events forward. And, thank you to our membership for continuing to support one another and our organization.

We wish you all happiness and health moving forward.
