There’s no doubt that the Palm Springs Virtual Seminar served up incredible educational and entertainment options this year. Indeed, the 2021 Palm Springs Virtual Seminar glimmered like a beacon of education, information, and entertainment, even though attendees were spread across SoCal.

From the diversity of topics presented to the selflessness of all who taught, mentored, and moderated, to the captivating, and on-brand keynote address by Justice William Bedsworth of the Fourth District Court of Appeal, everyone worked so hard on the first-ever CAOC, CAOIE & OCTLA virtual seminar.

In hindsight, it was a huge success. And we’re just getting started.

As Governor Newsom continues to reassure us that California is about to come Roaring Back from the devastating impacts of the coronavirus and lockdowns, OCTLA is set to come roaring back as well. We look forward to returning to in-person educational events beginning in September 2021. During what are hopefully the last few months of COVID restrictions, we’ve got a terrific calendar of educational events lined up, that I hope you’ll attend.

On June 24, 2021 from 4:30-5:30 p.m, we’ll hear from H. Gavin Long, Bisnar | Chase, and Gary A. Dordick, Dordick Law Corporation who will share their creative approaches to proving difficult liability. Topics will include strategies for defeating pedestrian in the road and speeding defenses, along with tips for prevailing over the auto industry’s major defense in roof crush cases.

In July, Bob Simon, The Simon Law Group; Kimberly Valentine, The Valentine Law Group; and William Shapiro, The Law Offices of William Shapiro will host the Defense Expert Depositions: Winning Your Case Through Expert Depositions webinar. Be sure to log in to attend on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 4:30 p.m.

There are no educational events in August, but we’ll reconvene in September, when Brian Chase, Bisnar | Chase; Dana Fox, Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith, LLP; Bob Tessier, Judicate West; and Gary Chambers, JAMS Mediation and the Honorable Mary Fingal Schulte (Ret.) ADR Services, Inc. present to OCTLA on September 23, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. Mediating Your Case: An Interactive Program on how to Effectively Mediate your Case, Presented from the Plaintiff, Defense, and Mediators’ Perspective, is sure to be filled with invaluable insights and strategies for securing favorable outcomes.

In October, Brooke Bove, Bove Law Group; Darren Aitken, Aitken, Aitken, Cohn; and Matt Clark, Bentley & More, LLP will present Going on the Offensive: Techniques for Moving Cases Forward and Defeating Obstructive Defense Tactics.” You can earn your MCLE credit for this presentation on October 28, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. Don’t forget to check out OCTLA’s On Demand MCLE list on the website for additional educational programs offered to our members.

We hope you will join us for these undoubtedly interesting, useful, and likely entertaining educational events, as together we push forward to help our clients, and our legal community come roaring back from COVID-19.

Finally, to continue with OCTLA’s mission to provide superior education to attorneys, OCTLA launched for its third year our summer intern mentoring program. The OCTLA mentoring program provides a unique opportunity for interns to work in three different law firms and practice areas providing a diverse introduction to the profession.

Looking forward to roaring back and seeing everyone soon!
