2024 May

“April showers bring May flowers” is a saying that can be traced all the way back to England and the 1500’s poet Thomas Tusser. Back then, he wrote “Sweet April showers do spring May Flowers.”

Both Los Angeles and Orange County Trial Lawyers’ Charities are “pass through” organizations. What we raise is what we can give away through grants and direct giving. In other words, thanks to an April shower of support, both of us may spring more flowers throughout our communities.

Last month, LATLC returned to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for a full Casino Night, with great activities, delicious dining, a successful silent auction, and non-stop dancing. More than 400 guests had a great night, with incredible prizes like a Bottega Veneta designer bag, front row tickets to a Zach Bryan concert, and the AlderLaw Lakers Suite for 12 guests.

We also enjoyed the smooth jazz from one of our partner charities, The Harmony Project, an incredible music education organization dedicated exclusively to youth from low-income families and under-resourced communities and one of the most effective arts-based, youth development programs in the nation.

Even real April showers couldn’t stop us!

Special thanks to all of our wonderful supporters, especially our Title Sponsors ChartSquad, Elder & Spencer, and TorkLaw; and our Benefactors: ACTS, Scott J. Corwin, APLC, Lallande Law PLC, Signature Resolution, and The Wallace Firm.

Orange County annual Roast

OCTLC hosted our annual Roast the following week at the Westin South Coast Plaza. The Roast featured former LATLC President Bob Simon, who became a founder of OCTLC when it was first created.

Bob Simon, Attorney Share and friends and supporters like Dordick Law Corporation, Outlier Creative, the May Firm, TorkLaw, Nguyen Theam Lawyers, ChartSquad and so many more wonderful and generous law firms and law firm support organizations and businesses made the event a huge success. This was a very toasty roast indeed and funds were raised for adaptive tricycles at our upcoming combination LATLC/OCTLC Great Tryke Giveaway.

Supporting Equine Therapy and Autism Acceptance

But April was not only a month of showers – it was a month of volunteer activities for both LATLC and OCTLC.

On April 12, OCTLC was lucky enough to participate in an event with Free Rein in Huntington Beach. Free Rein is an organization that provides animal-therapy programs using rescue horses to heal at-risk youth. Free Rein provides a wonderful life of love and caring to the rescued horses who then are used to assist humans with equine therapy. OCTLC enjoyed learning about how this equine therapy works and how to communicate and interact with these wonderful creatures.

LATLC ended April (which was also Autism Acceptance Month) with a special project at Exceptional Children’s Foundation’s Early Start school. In 2018, we transformed their playground with new mulch and an edible garden. On April 30, we returned to beautify their entrance with colorful flowers and outdoor seating.

So, thank you to everyone who transformed April showers into a flowering garden of financial and volunteer support for both of our organizations.
