Giving thanks all around

OCTLA benefits to be thankful for

Lindsey Aitken
2023 November

Tis the season for Giving Thanks! I love November. The air gets a little crisper. The leaves change, not so much in SoCal, but we can look at pictures, right? Football is in full swing. Children try to behave a little more in anticipation of the holiday season. November is a time to remember what we are thankful for. I am thankful for the health of my family, my busy legal practice, and having a roof over my head.

I am thankful for the board of directors that work all year organizing events, putting on education seminars and performing community outreach. I am extremely thankful for our executive team, Janet Thornton and Jennifer Lopez. It takes a lot of time and energy to run a robust organization like OCTLA.

I am thankful for our Orange County Trial Lawyer members. The OCTLA board volunteers their time for your direct benefit. So, in the spirit of giving thanks, I want to remind OCTLA members of the benefits that are offered to you and ask that you take advantage of them!

Events. Whether you attend our in-person MCLE seminars or join in the fun of events like our annual golf tournament, axe-throwing or other member mixers you’ll find yourself in the midst of Orange County’s most respected attorneys, mediators and jurists. OCTLA is the place to build lasting professional and personal relationships.

The Listserve. OCTLA members have access to our robust Listserve. Any question you have, ask on the Listserve. Our community is eager to respond to your questions. Don’t forget the Listserve is searchable, so you can run a search for past posts.

The Document Bank. Throughout the years our members have contributed their motions (including in limine motions), opposition to motions, deposition transcripts, discovery requests, demand letters, trial documents, etc. I could go on and on.

The Gavel. Current and past issues of our quarterly magazine are available on the OCTLA website where our members and legal experts share trial techniques, practice pointers, and new legal developments on issues important to your practice.

Case Evaluation Panel. Looking for a second opinion on one of your cases? It’s easy to email OCTLA and your request will be assigned to an experienced attorney in the specific practice area.

Member Deals. Many of our sponsors provide discounts on their services exclusively to OCTLA members. Check out the member deals tab under membership and take advantage of this opportunity.

With all the hustle and bustle that the holiday season brings, it is easy to forget what we are thankful for. I am going to remind myself every day of at least one thing I am thankful for, and I encourage all of you to do the same. Happy Thanksgiving to my trial lawyer community!
