2023 November

Thursday, November 23 is Thanksgiving. The Friday AFTER Thanksgiving is Black Friday – the biggest shopping day of the year. Then comes Small Business Saturday – to encourage local shopping. And finally, Cyber Monday to promote online purchases.

But have you ever heard of #Giving Tuesday – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and all those days urging you to spend your money? #GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good, by “giving” of their time and support to their local community.

LATLC and OCTLC both offer opportunities to “give” throughout the entire year. You can volunteer for our regular service projects, and you can donate to each of our organizations.

Both LA and OC have projects through the end of 2023. LATLC’s annual holiday giving event – COMFORT & JOY – is set for December 9. This is our Signature Event of the year. We will again partner with LAPD’s Newton Division, the Fire Department, and community organizations for a “Miracle on 34th Street,” providing groceries and 2,000 toys to 500 South Los Angeles families in need. You can volunteer for this incredible event or sponsor activities by visiting https://COMFORT23.givesmart.com.

OCTLC has two opportunities to give and participate. November 14, 2023, at Orangewood Children’s Home, where foster youth are housed during emergencies, OCTLC will serve lunch to the minors living temporarily at the home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

On December 7, 8 and 16th there are opportunities to volunteer with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Orange County for Operation Holiday Homework. OCTLC is a main sponsor of this event where families in the Operation Holiday Homework program will be paired up with OCTLC and volunteers to select gifts for their families and children and then wrap them for the holidays. Volunteers are needed for: 12/7/23 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; 12/8/23 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 12/16/23 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

We have already scheduled activities for the coming year – including our joint Signature Event, THE GREAT TRYKE GIVEWAY, set for April 13, 2024. Signing up today to volunteer for these future events is a wonderful way to honor #GivingTuesday.

OCTLC and LATLC are also sharing over 200 other opportunities with you. Our groups focus on five areas: Children, Education, Persons with Disabilities, Survivors of Abuse, and Homelessness. We have vetted organizations that do outstanding work within those spaces. Visit our websites (www.LATLC.org or www.OCTLC.org) for lists and direct links. Many of those non-profits have specific opportunities for #GivingTuesday.

However you decide to spend the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, we hope you will do one thing – give to others.
