LATLC kicked off Gay Pride Month by marching with CAALA in the West Hollywood Parade on June 1 and is ending the month with the Famous Vartazarian Luau on June 28. If you have yet to attend The Luau, you are missing an incredible experience! Steve and Collette Vartazarian generously open their home and host more than 300 guests. It is a night of delicious food, great entertainment, and even the roasted pig ceremony! For the first time there will be limited sponsorships as well as ticket bundles. But the event is selling out fast, so do not wait! (https://LUAU25.givesmart.com). Last year The Luau brought in more than $150,000. Funds raised by The Luau go toward LATLC grants and programs.

OCTLC recently provided Mother’s Day goods for women in the Lynn House Shelter and provided a Mother’s Day lunch for about 100 participants at the City of Irvine’s Senior Center with Age Well Senior Services and Meals on Wheels. Additionally, OCTLC is set to do another team build with Habitat for Humanity on July 15. These events are not only popular with volunteers, as they are a lot of work and a lot of fun, but they also provide new homes for families who need affordable housing and have proven that they have earned an opportunity to receive one of the Habitat houses through hard work and diligence.

We are ending the summer with an ’80s style “Battle of the Bands” on September 13 at Newport Dunes. Flashback Heart Attack, a popular Southern California band, will perform all the hits of the ’80s at the beautiful beaches of Newport, and OCTLC supporters will form groups of ’80s bands for a lip sync battle. One of the teams will win the coveted trophy and have bragging rights until someone dares to challenge them in years to come. All this fun for charity!! Keep your eyes open for tickets at the octlc.org website coming soon. Earlier in the morning of the same day, OCTLC will once again provide a water and cheer station at the Triumph Foundation’s Superheroes 5k event at Mason Regional Park where participants will run, roll, ride or walk their way to victory all while dressed as their favorite superhero.

Summer is also a time for kids to be outside playing sports. Just a reminder that if your child or children you know of are involved in organized athletics, LATLC has a specific grant program that runs throughout the year. Leagues and schools (not individual teams) can receive $500 grants as well as a banner to display. The wonderful part of this program is that it is totally inclusive – LATLC supports all sports for boys and girls (from softball to swimming) and is especially proud of our special needs organizations – Buddy Ball, Challenger baseball, Cyclone Cheer squad, and Lakewood Lancers Challengers football. LATLC has also replaced equipment for teams in the fire areas. To learn more and apply for grants, visit our website (https://www.latlc.org/youth-sports/).

OCTLC provides grants to numerous youth sports organizations like Serving Advantage, a youth-led nonprofit organization and growing tennis program created for children with intellectual or developmental differences who are ages 8-17. The Orange County Youth Sports Foundation, another OCTLC partner charity, supports underserved youth throughout the county.

Volunteer opportunities (and fundraisers) are planned throughout the summer months, so grab your sunscreen and join OCTLC and LATLC in the work we do.
